Jean shorts – or jorts – come in many styles, shapes, and forms that have gone in and out of fashion over the years. No longer is the classic Daisy Dukes, that finished as close to your bum cheeks as possible without crossing into underwear territory, the denim short du jour (thankfully). Instead, this season it's a longline style that's proving popular.
While there are some variations in length and cut, the trending shorts silhouette is most commonly identified by a loose fit and wide leg that finishes at the lower thigh, just above the knee. Look to Hailey Bieber for examples. The Rhode founder has quickly become the poster girl of the jorts trend, modelling a series of different pairs on Instagram in the past few weeks.
The trend has proved controversial though, with the masculine style previously associated with Dads at Disney World proving tricky to pull off (unless you're a world-famous model, of course). Fitting then that Gigi Hadid just entered the chat in... pedal pushers.
Spotted out and about in New York, the model and Guest In Residence founder was rocking a pair of denim pedal pushers like it's 2002. Her light-wash jorts were a slim fit with flat front pockets and a seam down the centre of each leg. And crucially, they finished at the top of her shin, right below the knee.
Gigi styled her jorts with a tucked-in black tank top and added a leather belt, wearing black pointed-toe ballet pumps on her feet. She had her scraped back and added dark oval sunglasses and layered gold chain necklaces.
Dare we say, Gigi's shorts are actually... chic? Seriously, her 'fit is the definition of polished. The jury's still out on whether or not we'll be trying the pedal pusher jorts look for ourselves, but if you want to give the trend a try, shop the best denim pedal pushers below.
